What is Game Not Included?

Hi! Welcome! I see you clicked on the About section of the website and you must be wondering what this place is. Well it’s very much a work-in-progress right now, but Game Not Included is a concept art curriculum for teens. The premise is to use game design techniques like world building, character design, and storytelling to practice emotion communication skills.

How does Game Not Included work?

Did you know that concept art is uniquely suited to developing your emotional language skills? Any good character, world, or story revolves around communicating emotion to the viewer. Game Not Included takes this powerful tool and uses it to start a conversation. Create a world of environments and characters, events and stories, with each part reflecting the things you find most important at the core. As you share your world with others you will collaborate together to connect the mood to the aesthetics of your creations.
Right now things are pretty under construction, but keep checking back to see Game Not Included grow! New pages will start to appear, then maybe break and disappear for a bit, then reappear better than ever… it’s a process.

Who is Game Not Included?

I’m Ashley, I’m a Pittsburgh based teacher, artist, and game design enthusiast, and I believe that world building can help teens (and really everyone) feel empowered to tell their story.
When I’m not developing this curriculum, I have my own art projects I like to explore. My background is in board game and video game art, along with some typesetting skills I come in handy more often than I would have expected.
